Elmarco at EXPO 2025: Three Days of Nanofiber Innovation in Osaka

Jul 4, 2025

From June 10 to 12, 2025, Elmarco hosted the Industrial Nanofiber Innovation Conference at the Czech National Pavilion during EXPO 2025 in Osaka. The event welcomed over 150 participants from all around the world gathering global experts in science, industry, and application development for three days of knowledge‑sharing, networking, and hands‑on learning.

One Industry, One Language: Innovation

From scientific depth to manufacturing reality, the Industrial Nanofiber Innovation Conference confirmed one thing: the global nanofiber community is thriving – and it’s shaping the future of filtration, medicine, textiles, and sustainability.

“It was more than a conference. It felt like the beginning of something bigger,” said  Miloslav Masopust, CEO of Elmarco.

June 10 – Conference Day: Innovation in Every Fiber

The conference opened with a symbolic bell‑ringing by Miloslav Masopust, CEO of Elmarco, followed by a day full of expert‑led lectures exploring the frontiers of fiber materials and electrospinning applications.

We started shaping the program over a year in advance, aiming to offer real value to every participant,” said Karolína Vymetalová, marketing specialist and a member of the organizing team. “Based on the feedback, we believe we achieved that — and we’re truly grateful. Our goal was to create a space where nanofiber research could meet industrial practice.”

What did the conference
offer its participants?

  • Prof. Seeram Ramakrishna (National University of Singapore) opened the program with a keynote titled “Future Directions of Fiber Materials,” offering a visionary perspective on the roles of nano‑engineered, quantum, sustainable, and intelligent materials in tomorrow’s fiber landscape.
  • Dr. Ivan Ponomarev (Elmarco) followed with a talk on the “Environmental, Ecological and Sustainable Approach in Electrospinning,” addressing the impact of fiber production and the need for greener methods.
  • Dr. Damien Vitry (Arkema) presented “From Castor Bean to Advanced Bio Circular (ABC) Materials,” showing how bio‑based polymers are transforming performance applications.
  • Antoine Mangogna (CEO, SAATI) offered an innovative angle with “Sustainable Electrospun Polymers for Cleaning Artworks,” merging nanotechnology with cultural heritage preservation.
  • Kari Luukkonen (Fibertex Nonwovens) shared the “Latest Developments in Filtration and Membrane Applications,” including insights into the industrial use of nanofibers.
  • Dr. Josh Manasco (Elmarco) introduced “Latest Innovations in Electrospinning Equipment,” demonstrating the role of process optimization and industrial scalability.
  • Alex Wong (King’s Flair) wrapped up the lectures with “Advantages of the Nanospider Electrospinning System,” highlighting real‑world implementation in functional fiber production.

The day concluded with a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Manasco: “From Fundamental Research to Final Product,” where speakers reflected on translating academic knowledge into scalable commercial solutions.

June 11–12 – Workshops: From Insight to Application

Over the next two days, attendees moved from auditorium to lab bench – participating in focused, expert‑led hands‑on workshops

June 11:

  • Prof. Rajan Jose and Dr. Dawn Sivan (Ming Chi University of Technology) led a morning session titled “Sustainability of Electrospinning via Artificial Intelligence,” combining electrospinning fundamentals with emerging strategies in materials informatics.
  • In the afternoon, Dr. Eva Kuželová Košťáková and Prof. David Lukáš (Technical University of Liberec) co‑led “Nanofibrous Materials for Medical Applications,” showcasing examples of nanofibers in wound healing, tissue engineering, and drug delivery systems.

June 12:

  • The day began with Ing. Kateřina Rubáčková (Elmarco), Dr. Dana Dutczak (Porometer), Schoko Wada (JASCO INTERNATIONAL) and Atsushi Suzuki (Thermo Fisher Scientific) conducting “Electrospinning Process DEMO & Nanofibrous Layer Analysis,” including live spinning, fiber microscopy, and quality evaluation techniques.
  • The final workshop, “Global Air Filtration Standards: A Comparative Analysis,” was co‑led by Dr. Iyad Al‑Attar (Cranfield University), Dr. Cheah Wei Ng (Camfil), and Tom Birchard (Elmarco). They compared regional standards, technological implications, and practical selection criteria for nanofiber filtration.

Evening Program: Networking with a View

To close the conference day on June 10, participants were invited to an exclusive after‑party,   featuring a classical music concert celebrating the richness of Czech and Central European musical heritage. The evening continued with a delicious Czech cuisine experience and a lively performance by a jazz band, all set in the unique and elegant surroundings of the Czech National Pavilion.

Thank you to all our speakers, partners, and guests.
